"UNFINISHED BUSINESS"/ UNFINISHED EVENTS/ SITUATIONS/ TRAUMA
Zinker writes that if we do not organize and process the "unfinished events/situations, the unfinished gestalts/ traumas" from childhood, they will disturb us for the rest of our lives. He believed that Laura and Fritz Perls had created a direction in psychology "to complete unfinished business - to make them whole inside of us - so we could move on with our life."

I LOVE . . . FIELD
AND I FIND IT EXCITING!
Roughly simplified, I can say: In Gestalt therapy theory, we believe that healing can happen in relationship with the therapist. Both therapist and client influence and are influenced by each other. This can create new experiences in the field.
Then it becomes extra important for me, that I as a therapist work with my own unfinished gestalts/ traumas so that I can contribute to precisely new experiences. Then there will perhaps be less creative adaptation here and now.
WHAT IS an unfinished gestalt, AND how to work
with THE FIELDSUPPORT METHOD
When people are about to embark on a journey of selfdiscovery they need awareness enough to know where they are at the moment (here & now). The most principal explanation of this would be picture yourself making a journey to an exiting place on a map. The exiting place is for this purpose marked as B in the map. Before you start the journey you need to know where YOU are on the map. Let’s call it point A. If you ar not at the actual point A in the map and set your bearings, you may never end up at point B.
Even worse is the possibility that you never really wanted to reach point B. But instead you would, deep down, love point C witch is not yet in the map. But as an obedient child, aimed for point B because your mom, dad and family may have excepted you to go to B.
As traumatized persons have a profund lack of awareness of ”here & now». A lack of understanding where ”point A” is on their lives journey, their journey will be at least bumpy. And in som cases right out life-threatening.
In my experience: Awareness of where ”point A” is, is essential for any journey with any relation or location.
Let’s experiment with a stupid scenario that your B was at the top of Mount Everest. The level of resources needed for such a journey is mindboggeling for most people. The need to establish a sobering «point A» is crucial. In every persons life there is a Mount Everest. It’s called unfinished gestalts or trauma.
As you progress in your journey your awareness will tell you that you may want to know how to acknowledge yourself, love yourself, protect yourself - and to live your life, the way YOU want! To find your A, so you will know your B. Working with trauma gets you closer to «here & now» in your consciousness. You become more you. Suddenly YOU are at the top. And there’s nothing blocking your views and movement.
And the whole alphabet can be used. I can go wherever I want, because I know where I am!
And then I know more and more WHO AM I in relation to whom and what is happening around me.

WHAT IS THE FIELD SUPPORT METHOD?

Learning a method is a lot about walking the path yourself. Acquiring skills is not just reading up on knowledge, but experiencing it on your own body and in your process and to the extent that I am ready for it. The method is not a technique to be followed, if I lose the perspective of the here & now and become preoccupied with right and wrong, it is a phenomenon that happens in the field in relation to this client, and who need to be adressed if I am aware of it.
FIELD IS EXCITING!
Roughly simplified, I can say: In Gestalt therapy theory, we believe that healing can take place in a field in relation with others, the therapist, group members ++. Both therapist and client, group menmbers influence and are influenced by each other. This can create new experiences in the field. Then it becomes extra important for me, that as a therapist I work with my own unfinished gestalts/ traumas so that I can contribute to new information and/ or new experiences. Then there will perhaps be less creative adaptation here & now. And it is importent to remember; YOU CAN NOT DO THE UNFINISHED GESTALT WORK/ TRAUMA WORK FOR ANOTHER PERSON!
I often think of the field, as the most important influence were a therapist and the fieldsupports, can make and ”hold space” for the client. That is what a regulated adult can do with a child who is struggling with something. Being an adequate authentic adult who regulates oneself is not easy, that requires that I have access to my organism, my body, my sensations, my emotions and the ability to reflect on the impressions I have access to in the field. And not least all the other fields that swirl in and out here and now. And the parallel processeses.
”Nothing new under the sun”
I am constantly amazed that when I start to look at connections and think that I have discoverd something new, I am reality-oriented by the fact that most of it has been said by others who are wiser than me. It tells me that we humans have always wondered about life’s big questions and sought meaning, development, and balance, perhaps at all times.
I wanted to describe a tool and I concluded on: ”Do your own work, and leave the client be. So after thousands of hour of therapy in different modalities I started again to work with myself and my unfinished gestalts - so that I can be present and contribute to the extent that I am able together with the client. And with an awareness that we are more than we think, here & now, and that there are factors that influence beyond who I think I am.
